Design [+] Design Research

The blog showcases Portfolio and discussions prevalent at Design [+] Design Research.
D[+]DR is a research team at Design Plus, which tackles a systematic process of design within the context of India's construction Industry. Its main endeavor is to create a comprehensive dialogue between a high-tech design development and a relative low-tech execution. Details: http://designplus.org.in/d-n-dr-intro.html

Patterns and Performance - 2011 Sem 4

Thesis | 2nd Year_ 4th Sem

Patterns exist all around us. They  are evident all around in nature and the cosmos. Is it not intriguing that if we look at the organic layout of an atom it replicates a similar format of the solar system? SImilarly if we analyze the configuration of various molecular structures the diagraming is very similar to that of the structure of DNA molecules. However the DNA molecule may develop on a more vertical construct vs chemical molecular structures which may unfold on a more horizontal platform. The role of the studio is to be able to question this possibility into the realm of built form. Cities like molecules are a composite of various patterns of their own - some planned others amorphous generations. The studio will also research such conditions as part of the ongoing process of design. Students will participate in research developing tools, processes and strategies of patterns that may influence the built form. The unit will be involved with testing parameters and strategies in relation to the formulation of space. The studio will be testing these ideologies within a rural context as well as an urban scenario. The studio is based on the format of asking appropriate questions through design ideologies rather than answering them.

  1. hello patterns!
since ive been away i picked up a word from the youth of delhi -"Gyan". so here is some "Gyan"-
    1) the computer will not solve all your problems. it is but a tool to enable the generation of your perceptions of space.2) if you think you know it all or have seen it all you may as well quit architecture right now. Architecture is a journey of exploration. 3)if you have seen something before [a documentary,a painting, a script, a photograph] dont hesitate from seeing it over and over again. i guarantee you will experience something new each time. 4)hold on to that experience 5) fear is your greatest enemy. 6) if your design fails because of its vision (and not because you were lazy to submit work on deadline day) you are asking the right questions. 7) never ever listen to your friends.8) listen, analyse, decide, adapt 9) exhaust all possibilities of solutions and then when you feel there is nothing more to offer begin designing 9) no one will care about your great vision if you can not draw basic elevations, sections, plans appropriately 10) Read 11) Avoid bull shitting. you are only fooling yourself. 12) dont talk design - draw it and better yet build it. 13) begin to enjoy the art of working. 14) use school as a period to get your crap out of your system 15) chaos and confusion is like breathing for architects....look for ways to solve it. its fun.16) stop saying "ho nahin sakta" start saying karna hai. 17) never think you are right because you are saying so and you know better than everyone else. you only sound like a spoilt brat... there are lots bigger than you can imagine. 18) he who works his idea is supreme he who only talks needs to shut up. 19) listen and observe people. 20) the mark of a leader is he who carries his team and inspires unconditionally. 21) Read 22) learn from everyone 23) Work to build your focus and passion 24) get your hands dirty 25) your work is who you are.
    Good Luck!
